A PREMIER MARITIME EVENT ANCHORS IN
SINGAPORE
Inaugural Sea Asia
2007 – Asian Perspectives, Global Inclusiveness
25 May 2005
Plans for a high-level premier maritime event in Singapore are underway. Slated for our shores 2-4 April 2007, Sea Asia will be jointly organized by the Singapore Maritime Foundation and Seatrade, and supported by the Association of Singapore Maritime Industries (ASMI), Maritime and Port Authority of Singapore (MPA), PSA International, the Society of Naval Architects and Marine Engineers, Singapore (SNAMES), the Singapore Shipping Association (SSA) and the Singapore Tourism Board (STB).
The launch of Sea Asia 2007 is set against a strong background of maritime growth in this region. Maritime trade in Asia Pacific is estimated at more than USD $100 billion, with Asian shipowners and managers accounting for at least 40% of the world’s shipping tonnage. In addition, twelve of the top 20 container lines in the world are Asian. Asia also supplies 50% of the world’s seafarers. These and other developments have further fueled Singapore ’s maritime industry and driven forward Singapore ’s plans to be an International Maritime Centre (IMC). Currently,
the maritime industry contributes 7% of Singapore ’s GDP and is expected to grow rapidly in the coming years.
“This accelerated growth in Asia is central to Singapore ’s plans. It is timely to have a flagship maritime exhibition and conference to market and profile maritime competency at an international level,” says Mr S S Teo, Chairman, Singapore Maritime Foundation. “With strong industry support, Sea Asia 2007 will become the iconic platform for anyone with maritime interests in Asia and what the region has to offer the world.”
A biennial event, Sea Asia’s mission is to deliver the highest quality exhibition, conference speakers and content. The inaugural event is scheduled for 2 – 4 April 2007. The theme is New Maritime Horizons.
“The global maritime scene has witnessed high speed growth in recent years, with Asia as a principal engine of growth. Our experience tells us that this is the place and time to harness that growth,” says Mr Christopher Hayman, Managing Director of Seatrade. “We are organizing a world-class maritime event. With its unique positioning as platform for the voice of Asian shipping, it is sure to substantially benefit the global maritime community.”
Mr Teo and Mr Hayman will share more details at the news briefing and Official Launch of Sea Asia 2007 on Wednesday, 25 May 2005 . The official Sea Asia website, which will also go live on 25 May, will be at www.sea-asia.com.
