Synopsis:
The U.S. Coast Guard issued a safety alert on radio frequency interference caused by LED lights on marine radio, AIS and DSC communication systems. Maritime New Zealand published a report on a cargo hold fire caused by heat from a 500W incandescent floodlight. Hence, what sort of lighting should shipowners use?

Selecting the right LED lighting for marine application remains a challenge for many shipowners, managers and buyers, as many are used to conventional lightings such as fluorescent lamps, incandescent bulbs or high-intensity discharge lamps. The huge variety of LED specifications and features available in the market also continues to baffle experienced marine purchasers. However, by adopting the correct marine LED that complies to IEC60533 standard for electromagnetic compatibility on ships, you can boost your vessel’s energy efficiency, save on maintenance and lamp consumables costs, while also ensure navigational safety on-board! SOP Marine LED solutions allow users to reduce total cost of ownership for vessel lighting, reduce greenhouse gas emission and reap a fast return on investment.
